Here’s a recap of my experiences at the 2010 Dirty Kanza 200 bike race through the Flint Hills of Kansas. 20+ MPH wind and 95+ degrees turned the day into a blast furnace. My race ended at 65 miles. Not quite what I’d hoped for.

I’ve bought some new gravel-road tires for the Long Haul Trucker: Serfas Vermin, with a semi-slick center tread, knobby edges, and a flat protection layer.
In Kansas, where the wind is seldom absent for long, a bike ride without headwind is a rare and precious thing. 135 miles of such riding is amazing. What a day!
A quick trip to Slaughter Pen Hollow mountain bike park in Bentonville, Arkansas, featuring 16 miles of singletrack and a sweet freeride/skills area.
A scenic ramble through the McIlroy Madison County Wildlife Management Area near Berryville, Arkansas.
Lake Leatherwood is located near Eureka Springs, Arkansas and offers over 16 miles of trails, mostly single-track, arranged in a stack-loop configuration around the entire lake. Sweet!
