An Unexpected Return

Well now.

It’s been over four years since I posted on this blog, but here I am again. Despite a gross dereliction of duty, I intend to carry on more or less as if nothing untoward had happened.

Why the long absence? I lost interest, apparently. Life got busy. Other activities captured by attention. It seemed easier to post photos to Facebook.

Why restart this blog? Well, I am still paying for the domain name and hosting. I don’t know if anyone still reads this site, but it does get some search engine traffic. Reading through the old posts has been great fun, and has made me realize how many rides and adventures that are missing.

So, what’s happened in the last four years?

Lots of bike riding! Lots of pictures! Lots of adventures! New bikes! I may get around to retroactively documenting some of that. Or I may not.

The big news is that my wife and I relocated from Olathe (Kansas City suburb) to Iola, a small rural community in Southeast Kansas. We wanted to get away from the suburbs. I wanted new areas to explore. You can read about that here: Moving to Portland (Alley). It’s been a good move. We’re happy. We’ve made new friends.

The big other news is that I’ve become a trail builder! Despite not being much of a mountain biker, and knowing little about trail design or construction, I somehow became the lead architect and builder of the Lehigh Portland Trails in Iola. It’s been a great adventure! I get to spend time in the woods as much as I like, and now have a wonderfully scenic natural destination just a short ride from my house.

So, will I keep the blog going this time? Who knows. I’ll try…

Stay tuned!

I enjoy riding bicycles all over -- city streets, suburbia, rural roads, gravel roads, dirt roads, rail-trails, and singletrack. I love exploring the countryside and finding the interesting and historical treasures hidden in plain sight. You can follow my rides on Strava.
