At the time, I appreciated having an excuse to stop for a break, but it turned out to be a little too long of a break. Oh well, no regrets.

Great report of your very matter-of-fact experience. I love how you, or mostly anyone, were so cavalier about *only* riding 70m+ in such tough conditions. It's an exploit in itself. I also wonder how much your generosity affected your outcome. That's such a conundrum; if I help, will it adversely affect me?

As to your take-aways, I think they are spot on. Those types of races require speed, power and endurance. I, myself, lost that speed snap long ago. On my own I rarely push myself because I enjoy the ride so much more than the suffering. And finally, as a LHT owner, I personally would not want to undertake such a race on the LHT. While it's perfect for my own commuting and exploration, in faster conditions it would be quite a burden.

An awesome job well done and look forward to many other mixed-terrain reports.

200 miles on pavement would be grueling, let alone on GRAVEL! You made the effort and helped others along the way. Way to go, Randy!

From all the accounts I've read, it seems it was a very difficult race. You should feel good about how you did ... no need for excuses, or justifications, you did well! Congrats!
